The Director of the Justice and Peace Commission of the Machakos Diocese partnered with Peter to run awareness workshops on the importance of forest covers in 13 districts, bringing together all 85 parishes in the region to discuss how to better care for the environment while alleviating poverty. Citing the need for at least 10% forest cover to maintain healthy ecosystems, an increase from the currently estimated 4-6% in the area, the workshop participants and leaders set an example of what needs to be done: plant more trees!
